One of the most unforgettable adventure and experience in Ilocos is the Sand Dune. What is the adventure? You might ask. Well, we were going to ride around the sand dunes riding these awesome and rugged 4X4s.I will tell you, this is not for the faint hearted. Its an adventure for those who seek extreme sports. Its like riding a roller coaster without any safety gear. All you need to do is take tight grip on any part of the 4x4.

It was such a rush having my body thrashed from all sides, with only my poor little hands keeping me from flying off the vehicle.I was gripping the handlebars so tightly. The screams were not of fear, mind you. It was of pure joy and unadulterated excitement. The best parts of the ride are the downhill rushes. Our 4X4 slows down at the ridge of a downhill track. Then suddenly, the driver accelerates as he drives down the slope. We could feel our tummies rising up to meet our lungs!

The desert is the only desert in the country.I never thought there was even one actually (smiling here). It’s about 88-hectare spread of sand which blesses us amazing landscape and view of the sand dunes, powdery desert overlooking the beach and lovely sunrise and sunset.

We took a break so we can take photos and enjoy the breathtaking views.

The last adventure of this trip was the SandSurf. We went up the sand dune, the sands were so hot we started sprinting. I caught some of my breath under a tiny bahay kubo and waited for my turn. After a few moments, I proceeded to the start of the sand ride.

The instructors give us details how to surf the sands. I listened in and tried to find my center. I gave my go-signal and the instructor gave me a push.

I tumbled literally at the first part and lost control of the board, but half way through the slope, I was able to regain my control with my hands up in the air. I did feel the adrenalin while slowing down the hill.

I had a sand in my shirt, my short and my shoes, it's all worthwhile and tried it again the second time and it was all perfect.

The price is Php 2500 for the whole ride including the Sand Surf but we only paid a discounted price of Php 2000, not bad for the great adventure.

I will definitely try this again in our next road trip to Ilocos Sur.
