Exploring Laos: Vientiane

in #travel7 years ago

Vientiane is the capital and largest city in Laos. Located on the banks of the Mekong River, Vientiane is a city steeped in legend and history. The city is the home of the massive gilded stupa, Pha That Luang, a national symbol of Laos.

The streets are lined with trees, French colonial buildings, street markets, Buddhist temples, and noodle shops.

Compared to the hectic, bustling capitals in other Southeast Asian countries, Vientiane's deliciously relaxing atmosphere makes it feel like the small town it is. After you've done the round of temples, the best thing to do here has always been to wander down to the riverside, relax with a cold Beerlao - the national beer - and watch the sun set over the Mekong.

The Buddhist temples are really great to watch!

Upvoted... that looks really cool... Laos was one of the few places I missed :/ will have to go back... in Thailand they said Laos was like Thailand 30 years ago, you think that's true?

Thanks! Laos is very laid back, quiet and slow but it's starting to grow tourism now. And yes I agree it's like Thailand 30 years ago minus the ladyboys lol. following you now

Haha what no ladyboys??? :) Yeah sucks how all the good places eventually get flooded by tourism... but thanks for the follow!

I've not been there yet. Somehow I keep putting it off. Thanks to your reminder its back up near the top of the list :)

yes if you want to go somewhere peaceful just to relax away from the busy city I would suggest you go to Laos!

Very cool, now I'm really looking forward to my 1st visit there later this year.
