Puerto Galera: Showcasing the wonders of my hometown

Puerto Galera, my home town, is full of wonders that we citizen are proud of to showcase. Municipality of Puerto Galera, one of the progressive town of Oriental Mindoro province, became one of the progressive place due to its tourist attractions. It became one of the first class municipalities due to its contributions to economic status of the province. Puerto Galera can be found in the northest part of the province and about 130 kilometers away from Manila. It would take 5-6 hours to reach the town. From Manila, you can take a bus bound directly to Batangas port and from there you can choose to ride a pump boat or a ship/vessel to the port of Puerto Galera.

Puerto Galera also has its beautiful bay that is awarded One of the most Beautiful Bays in the World. Also our town have been previously declared Man and Biosphere (MAB) reserve by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organizaion (UNESCO).

Annually our town celebrates three festivals a year. We have the Kaaldawan Festival which commemorates the tribes every October. Galleon Festival is celebrated during May as we honor the discovery of our town that were used primarily as port of galleons by the Spaniard. And for musically inclined visitors, our town hosts an annual Malasimbo Festival a music and arts party. For inquiries you can visit their website on www.malasimbofestival.com.

Our town is known to its white sand beaches and diving sites. But still we have different and incredible attractions to offer. From our crystal clear sea to the green highlands, you can experience variety of activities.

Let me take you first on what we are known initially, the beaches! You can reach our beaches with just a motorcycle ride. Every barangays in our home town has its own white sand beaches, but I will introduce to you the well-known beaches we have.

First we have the White Beach that can found in Brgy. San Isidro. This would take for about 15 minutes away from town proper. You can indulge yourself to the clear sea at day and during the night light and sounds will electrify your body. Different water activities are present in White Beach from jet skiing, parasalining and banana boat.

Going to the most western part, we have the Talipanan Beach, where you can have a quiet and relaxing time and you can find one most visited pizzeria parlor.

In the east part of the province, you can find Munting Aplaya/Beach and Bulabod Beach in Brgy. Dulangan. Munting Aplya has different sand from the other beaches we have. It is rock sand but still its view and clear sea are mesmerizing.
From the town proper going to northern part, we have the Encenada Beach, an isolated beach where you can escape from the noisy and crowded place.

We also have an island that can be easily reached by a boat, the Haligi Beach. It’s a one island where you can find an underwater cave and try to snorkel and swim in the coral reefs inhabited by different kinds of fish.

From the salty aquatic, we also have fresh and breezing water from the highlands. We have different sites were you can witness an astonishing water falls. We have the Tamaraw Falls that is located in Brgy. Villaflor which is 30 minutes away from town proper. In the middle of the woods, we have the Tukuran Falls where you still need to penetrate the adjacent town to reach it. You can choose to reach it through a walk or ride in a cart pulled by a carabao.
If you want to see the whole picture of the Puerto Galera, you can get chance to take a glimpse when you reach the Ponderosa Golf Course. It’s a private property but fortunately it is open for local and foreign visitors. They also have a zipline that will cross the whole golf field.

For exciting actions, you can visit Extreme Sports located in Brgy. Sto. Nino. They offer lots of activities like paintball, ATVs, mud karts, go cart racing, archery tag, cross bow, airgun and still they are continuous in developing new and thrilling activities.

Activities never stop from day to night time. From thrilling tour in different corner of our town, you can dive in to the all-around night life in White Beach and Brgy. Sabang.
