Are You The Keymaster?

While out hunting uranium minerals in the desert two weeks ago I came across something very odd, two solid marble Chinese lion sculptures in the middle of nowhere, or Amboy, California on Rt. 66 to be exact.

I did a bit of digging and found out that these two lions represent yin and yang, one female lion, yin, and one male lion, yang. The lion I stopped at is the male lion. He holds a ball under his left paw meant to represent protection. The female further East holds a cub which means nurturance. Perhaps an ethnic Chinese can clarify this?

The sculptures are carved from solid blocks of marble about 5 feet tall. The sit on a base of cinder blocks just over 1 foot tall. The carving is quite nice and obviously done by a professional. But who?

At the lions' paws people have left coins of all kinds and just under his right claw someone left a rolled up piece of paper with a dollar bill. I was tempted to read the note, but my better judgement told me no.

No one knows who put these this far out in the desert. I can speculate though that they came from the owner of a marble quarry just up the road. But then why not put them in front of the quarry instead?

The lions had me thinking of Ric Moranis's character in Ghostbusters, Vinz Clortho who becomes possessed by ancient hell hound, the Keymaster!

Anyway, here are the Google Maps GPS coordinates. 34°33'33.1"N 115°40'21.2"W
34.559180, -115.672556

If you zoom out a bit to the North it seems there is a Shinto shrine called Bando. I think I saw it off in the distance. It looked like an abandoned delivery truck. Now I am going to have to make a trip back out there to investigate it! Luckily the New Method Uranium Mine gives me a reason to go back out again.

Wow! Very interesting! The owner of the sculptures must have asked the permission to place them there?! It’s something to do with energy portal or layline, in connection to Feng Shui?!

I think the owner of the sculptures owns the land as well. As I mentioned in the post there is a large marble quarry about 1 mile up the road.

This owner is very rich! Could be a Chinese billionaire!? 😂😂

OHhhhhh... now there's a thought! Maybe Miles Guo, 郭文贵!

How very weird!!!! If it's carved out of solid marble, are they worth a few bob?

These statues aren't cheap. Not only are the marble blocks they came from worth a lot, the craftsmanship was good, not incredible, but good and therefore not cheap to carve. It's all a real mystery.

Is this from when you were back home in the States? You're still in Japan now right? Don't tell me you've left again!!??

In the states right now. Was just out at this spot 2 weeks ago. Sucks because now that the lockdowns are "over" the traffic is really bad again. It was so nice when everyone was staying home and the freeways were empty!

Thata a pretty cool find in the middle of nowhere, it would be interesting to explore one day.

Now that I know the mystery surrounding them I want to go back out there and study them further, but it's really remote and takes about 3 hours form LA to get there.

It would take a lot longer from Alaska, especially since I really don't like to fly.

Pretty soon you won't be able to fly with all their BS restrictions! I know complaining about a 3hr drive might seem petty, but add in almost $4 a gallon gas and California drivers and I think I have a legit claim to complain.

Yes I understand that people are going full on psycho with the mask issue to the point of wearing not one but two or even three mask at a time.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.
