Reflecting on Adventures Past and Present: A Journey Update

in #travel18 days ago

Greetings, dear readers! It's been a while since I last sat down to write my thoughts, and oh, what a whirlwind of experiences it has been since then! Life has been a flurry of activity, leaving little time for reflection or writing. As I find myself nestled in a Café in Kenya, grappling with the intermittent internet speeds, I realize it's high time to catch you up on my adventures.

If you've been following along, you may recall my promise of sharing tales from my past travels. Regrettably, those posts never came to fruition, but fear not, dear readers, for they are still on my mind, waiting to be shared. However, my current endeavors demand my attention, particularly the monumental task of downloading my Google data through Google Takeout. Trust me, it's no easy feat, especially with limited internet access. As I type these words, the speed fluctuates between a crawl and a sprint, reminiscent of the unpredictable nature of travel itself.

March marked my seventh year of globetrotting, a journey born from injustice and longing for freedom and inner peace. Yet, amidst the exhilaration of exploration, there are moments when nostalgia creeps in, beckoning me back to a life once deemed perfect. But perfection, I've come to realize, is an illusion. A fleeting memory of childhood days spent with loved ones shows the only perfect time in life.

In December of the preceding year, my plans took an unforeseen twist as I encountered difficulties at the Kenyan border while attempting to depart. The Immigration Officer, in defiance of international laws, barred my exit, effectively holding me hostage within Kenya. Following a tense altercation, during which he became aggressive and caused injury to my knee, he deported me back into the country. Determined to find another route, I eventually succeeded in reaching Tanzania a few days later. However, my time in Tanzania was short-lived, lasting less than a month, before I found myself back in Kenya, this time encountering smoother passage through the border.

Amidst these challenges, I reached a critical juncture where I opted to enhance my working arsenal. Farewell was bid to my dependable Chromebook as I embraced a refurbished ThinkPad. Rekindling my fondness for Linux, I dove into the intricate process of customization, initially opting for Ubuntu 22.04 after encountering installation issues with Fedora. However, my quest for the ideal user experience led me to later switch to Fedora 40. Yet, as is often the case with such journeys, obstacles were encountered along the way.

As I juggled the intricacies of software installation, another challenge loomed on the horizon: retrieving my digital memories from the clutches of Google's servers. With each photo and file painstakingly downloaded, I grappled with the realization of my digital dependence and the need for greater autonomy over my data.

Fast forward to the present, and I find myself amidst a flurry of activity once more. From organizing birthday parties to penning reports for government officials, each day brings its own set of challenges and triumphs. Yet, amidst the chaos, I remain steadfast in my commitment to share my adventures with you, dear readers.

So here I am, a traveler navigating the uncharted waters of life, eager to recount tales of past journeys while forging ahead into the unknown. Join me as I delve into memories, weaving together threads of experience and insight into the tapestry of my nomadic existence. Until next time, may your days be filled with wonder and your travels with purpose. Safe journeys, friends, and may we meet again soon.

I was somehow picturing you crossing the river with a waterproof bag for your Chromebook to escape the trivialities of the bordering crossing. Looking forward to see where you go next.

Not that easy. No River to cross at the border. Only savannah...

The problem was an Exit and entry stamp. Otherwise I would push the problem to another time and place...
