Another perfect place if you want to live an unique experience in one of Mexico's Pueblos mágicos.
Bacalar - an amazing fresh water lake, feeds by underground cenotes, in the southern tip of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Called The Lake of Seven Colors not without a reason. The reason is the white sand at the bottom which gives the thrilling effect of multiple blue shades in the water. It is also a house for some of the oldest organisms on the planet.
This long and narrow lake is approximately 42 km long measured from north to south, and less than 2 km at its widest and it is the second largest natural body of fresh water in Mexico.
The name Bacalar means “surrounded by reeds” from the Mayan language.
This small town will make you fall in love with turquoise water lagoon, small fishermen’s houses on the shore and the Uchben Kah Ecotourism Park.
Place is so perfect for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving or other sports activities. You can also go on a boat tour to see the lake from the middle of it and take some dirty, muddy bath.
We’ve watched perfectly nice sunrise from the middle of the lake.
We went there from Playa del Carmen on one day trip. It was not enough. If you have more time, plan at least 2 days there. The place is incredible but it is a bit far, like 274 km from Playa. You can go there by ADO Bus, as we did, it was almost 4 hours journey, one way, head south towards Chetumal. It is super close to the Belize borders.
Place was true magic and swimming there was definitely worth the effort.
