In my opinion, California has the most diverse and amazing landscapes in the US. I took my time and visited friends and family along the way as I covered the state from north to south.

I woke up in my car at 4am just outside of Eureka, CA and couldn't get back to sleep. I would've started driving again, but I was due for an oil change so I had to stay put. When the sun came up, I started seeking out a spot to get it changed. Nothing opened til 8, so I read Casino Royale to kill time.
I was trying to get to a friend's house in San Jose before 6, but failed miserably. It wasn't really my fault. There was a ton a road construction and I also got onto one of the curviest roads in the universe. I had the bright idea to drive the Pacific Highway in order to get some scenic shots, so I got on highway 1 in Leggett and headed towards Fort Bragg.
Big mistake! It's only about 45 miles (as the crow flies), but it was a zig-zag fest with no mercy and it took me 2 HOURS to drive that short distance! I had to pull over for a few minutes cuz I was getting nauseous.
Another thing that slowed me down was......
THE VAMPIRE PENGUIN!!!
Just kidding.....
I just had to find a way to get the vampire penguin into another blog post.
The main reason, though, was lots of construction and, of course, California's world renowned traffic. Along the way, I did manage to get a few decent shots on the coastline.
Anyway, I didn't get to my friend's place until about 9, which cut our time short, unfortunately.
The next day I drove another 8 hours to LA to visit cousins and then it was onto San Diego for the final two days of the California route.
