Novi Sad - Day 1

in #travel2 years ago
After crossing the border from Croatia and entering Serbia, our first port of call was Novi Sad. Being Serbias second largest city behind the capital Belgrade, it boasts a population of around 400,000. Over the centuries since its founding in1694, it has become an important trading, manufacturing and cultural centre.
Our first taste of this wonderful city was a blue hour walk around the citys town square. Being a warm and balmy autumn evening, families were out in force enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Young couples, parents pushing strollers and prams, and with little children running around, added a nice buzz to made the experience even better.
The architecture of the city really showed it's best in the buildingds which surrounded the sqaure, taking you back in time to the days of the citys cultural zenith. As we were there at blue hour, the lights that were just starting to come on in the buildings added even more magic to the scene.
When we had taken many photographs, it was time to visit a local restaurant for a feed of local trout, which we found was a common dish throughout the Balkans.
With stomachs full we nade our way back to our lodgings, satisfied with our first impressions of Novi Sad and looking forward to the next day when we would discover more of what this town had to offer.
