TRAVEL: About that time we got lost in Puglia

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

About that time we got totally lost in Puglia, and a Pizza chef took it upon himself to drive us back ‘home’…..

I am writing this in Puglia, Italy (to be more precise: on a bench between the olive trees at Trullo San’ Angelo in Ceglie Messapica). Yesterday I flew in from Amsterdam to photograph the destination wedding of Monique & Marc.

Since arriving at Bari airport, we’ve had to deal with a lot of unexpected events, a few examples: creditcard issues, bad weather, getting lost and emptying our phone batteries trying to get back home, and a Masseria (B&B / Motel) that doesn’t have a proper lock and gets really(!) cold at night. And I’ll be honest: although I love adventures, things like these tend to stress me out, especially when I know there’s still a lot of work to be done.

It kind of made me doubt wether I could handle the Italian way of doing things. This is not to be negative, but it’s just that they have a whole other way to deal with things like planning, deadlines and communication. But just when I started to let these thoughts get the best of me this happened: a bit despaired, we knocked on a door we thought led to a pizza & pasta restaurant, to ask for the way back to the Masseria. It led us to the kitchen of the place, where the Pizza chef took it upon himself to get us home. He started calling and googling for the address, and when he couldn’t find it, slowly every family member at the restaurant started to help. Eventually the pizza chef even left his work station and drove with us to get us home safe.

This is also Italy, or let us say, the Italian countryside (like Tuscany & Puglia). And somehow, this makes you forget all the trouble you went to before. And yet again… Can’t help but falling head over heels for Italy all over again! This goes out to our hero: Dominik from La Locanda in Ceglie Messapica :-)

My Favorite places in Puglia: Ostuni, Monopoli & Polignano a Mare
Best place to stay around Ostuni: Masseria Montenapoleone (which is not the one from the story ;-)!)

Fixing it, since my ex is coming to town.

We are travelling along with you (@summer37) in 'Puglia'... :)

Yay!!

Yeah without tickets... :)

beautifully shot, those whites are gorgeous :D

Thanks so much! Right!? All the older parts in Ostuni (a big City in Puglia) are white. It's a photographers dream!

2018 I also visited Montenapoleone. You‘re right, the Masseria is really not the only one from the Story in this area ;) and the staff is very Professional. So, thank you for these lovely pictures!
