Traveling the World #155 - Ghetto Heroes Square @ Krakow, Poland

in #travel5 years ago

Hi Everyone,

Located near the Jewish quarter across the river Vistula, there are a number of iron and bronze chairs scattered in different places in the square. This the place where Jews where they used to hang out and go on with their everyday life.

This was turned when to a site where many Jewish people were killed during the 2nd world war and somewhere taken to concentrations camps from that square. Therefore to remember those who lost their lives, families are torn apart, these chairs were placed to have them remembered to those who died or sent to the camp. It was a big open space, it was quiet, only hearing the cars driving past. People would just slowly walk around the chairs silently. It was a sad place and we only stayed there for a short amount of time before we went to explorer the surrounding areas.

As we were walking around, we can see the buildings around the square was not well maintained compared to other parts of the city but at no point, we felt unsafe what so ever. Everyone was friendly and welcoming which I love about the city.

We saw some interesting wall art and this one was pretty impressing going all the way up to the top of the building. Some of these art reminds us of the ones we’ve seen in Portugal which we also had a great trip before the kids were born. Overall the Ghetto Heroes Square is a sad place with a lot of history to it and it will be a nice walk if you are around the area to visit the square to understand what has happened and how those people were remembered.

Hello there!

Despite whatever that might have happened there during the 2nd world war, the Ghetto Heroes Square seems to be a nice place. Also, I must admit the fact that I admire the wall art there; it's nice.

That being said, thanks for contributing to the realityhubs community. I appreciate.
