An Adventurous Ukee Day
The best time to wake in Ucluelet is with the sun. The birds start stirring just before the sunrise, which is the perfect time to brew your favourite hot beverage and enjoy a few moments of sweet quietude before the beat of the day begins.
Since you’re such a savvy traveller, you already have made reservations for getting out on the ocean with one of Ucluelet’s Wildlife & Nature tour companies, and you also have packed small backpack that includes a variety of clothing that can take you from sunny skies to wild stormy weather in a matter of minutes. This means having layers of clothing, including hat, scarf, and decent rain gear with you, as well as water and some snacks for fuel during the amazing day ahead.
Safely on board the vessel you chose, whether a fishing boat, kayak, or a zippy zodiac, your only job now is to keep your eyes peeled for a chance sighting of some of Mother Nature’s most magnificent creatures and to soak in as much of the lush surroundings of coastal life in BC as you possibly can.
The animals you might see vary from creatures of the sea, like otters, sea lions and whales, to the majestic predators of the sky; the bald eagles. There can be sightings along the shores as well, like wolves, black bears, and even the rare, illusive cougar. Keep your camera ready, you just never know what will pass your way!
The adventure at sea will end around lunch time, where you’ll be grateful for the smells wafting on the breeze from the local eateries. There is something to suit everyone’s taste in Ukee; from pizza to sushi, to homemade soups and sandwiches. There’s untraditional BBQ, awesome seafood trucks, and one of the top ranked fine dining restaurants in all of BC. Enjoy your lunch at the establishment, or take it ‘to-go,’ and get on the road so you can make it to the afternoon’s incredible adventure in amongst the towering old growth trees… Zip lining!
Zip lining is yet another a thrilling way to make memories that will never fade. You will be soaring above the Kennedy River Canyon, and gliding past flowing waterfalls, through the lush greenery of the temperate rainforest. Each tour is not only exhilarating and awe inspiring, it is also educational. The lively guides will not only show you the ropes, and keep you safe, they will also be sharing much about the lay of the land and what makes this place so wildly unique. This adventure is a whole lot of fun, whether rain or shine.
By now, the sun will be beginning to set, and many of you will have had your fill of thrill for the day. But for those of you who are raring to keep going with your awesome adventure lifestyle - why not swing by the local surf shop on your way back into town, and head for a sunset surf on one of the local beaches?! If you get a 24 hour gear rental, you can catch a few waves tonight, and then go back for an epic sunrise session tomorrow.
