The rest of the story about how I found myself on one of the highest points in the Armenian Highlands – Mount Aragats.
As you remember we were at the point where we said goodbye to the Yazidi family and set out again. We were getting further and further away from the tents. After awhile the track we were climbing up was nowhere to be found among the rocks and dry grass. It was a long and exhausting road.
Farewell
🔼 Waterfall
The weather was changing every five minutes: there was pouring rain but then the sun were coming out for a moment. Again and again and again. But despite the vagaries of the weather and our heavy backpacks the surrounding landscape gave us the strength to go forward. Mountain rivers, waterfalls, glaciers and mountaintops were beckoning us. They let us to cheer up and go to our goal.
🔼 On the way
At long last we got to the crater between the four peaks of Mount Aragats at an altitude of about 3500 meters. We decided to pitch our tent right there. We didn't want to go rushing to climb to the very top on the same day, because it was getting dark quickly. Besides, the weather was changeable.
🔼 Overlooking the rock
🔼 The place to camp
We agreed to finish our climb the next morning. We set up the tent and began to cook dinner. The clouds were crossing the sky and floating right below us. That was maybe the most amazing thing, at least for me, when the cloud was coming straight at you and was enveloping everything in its path. Spectacular sight!
🔼 The clouds coming in
🔼 The clouds were enveloping everything
The night was so cold that the next morning our tent was covered with a crust of ice. There were no clouds In the sky, and we decided to finish our climb while the weather looked with favour on us. We packed up and left all superfluous in the tent to go light this time.
🔼 One more waterfall and small glacier
🔼 A small halt
The peak of the mountain was ahead. There was only about 500 meters to climb. But trek up has been so steep that the stones under feet slipped and crumbled down. Literally I had to climb on all fours. We stopped to rest, enjoy all the splendor of these places again and moved on. Step by step, higher and higher ...
🔼 Trek up
🔼 Imposing mountains
But that's a whole other story.
