Las ciudades hispanoamericanas se hicieron copiando el trazado de La Laguna. Los conquistadores de Tenerife fundaron una ciudad nueva sin murallas, una novedad por aquel entonces. El éxito de esta planificación urbanística hizo que se copiara el patrón en las nuevas ciudades hispanoamericanas. La referencia a seguir fue la “rosa de los vientos”. Es decir, desde un centro parten las calles. Esta es la explicación al emblema de la ciudad que he dibujado aquí.
La Laguna fue declarada en 1999 “Bien Cultural Patrimonio de la Humanidad” por su trazado urbano. Fue la primera capital de Canarias y la mas ilustre, asentándose en ella la principal élite y aristocracia de la época.
Si la visitáis, estoy seguro que os encantará pasear por su casco antiguo donde hay gran cantidad de edificios emblemáticos, iglesias y conventos. Muchas casas de colores con balcones y ventanas de madera, estilo canario en las que podréis encontrar en su interior bonitos patios o claustros.
La Laguna, además, es marchosa porque cuenta con la primera universidad de Canarias, fundada hace 500 años y por ello hay mucha población juvenil lo que genera un ambiente alegre y entretenido.
En La Laguna se viviría muy bien sino fuera por la humedad. Hace mucho frío. El frío húmedo se te mete por los huesos y no hay abrigo posible. Además, las casas no están preparadas y no tienen calefacción central. Como son las islas de la eterna primavera... Hasta hace unos años se formaba una auténtica laguna en esta meseta, porque en ella se recogía la vertiente fluvial de los vecinos montes de Anaga. Muestra de esta humedad, son los verodes que crecen en muchos de los tejados espontáneamente. Los verodes que son unas plantas suculentas endémicas. Precisamente fue esta abundancia hídrica la que atrajo a los antiguos aborígenes (los guanches) y favoreció que se asentaran aquí desde hace dos milenios.
La Laguna tiene muchos lugares de interés que os iré enseñando próximamente Hasta entonces, os dejo aquí algunas fotos.

Sample of this humidity, are the verodes that grow on many of the roofs spontaneously. The verodes that are endemic succulent plants. It was precisely this abundance of water that attracted the ancient aborigines (the Guanches) and favored their settlement here for two millennia.
