The Venetian Castle of Akrotiri [Santorini - Greece]: A technologically advanced building for its time

Dear followers and readers who love The Wonders of Nature.

Translation of original article

I have the pleasure of sharing my ecotourism experience dotted with geohistory on my trip to the splendid semicircular archipelago of islands of volcanic origin, nestled in the Greek continental southeast, embraced by the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, Cyclades Islands that over time have changed their names, as it was known as Tera, Thera or Thira, lately Santorín and Santorini.

The continental territory of Santorini has a toponymy dotted with natural forces and a legendary cultural heritage that does not cease to be of interest in everyday discourse. The geological basement of what at first received the name of Kallisté, whose translation is interpreted as the most beautiful, would later be called the island of Théra; this is what we find in the documentary references of authors from ancient Greece.
The previous toponym is placed to praise its mythical founder of the colony doria, Teras, a direct descendant of Autesión. Nevertheless, the changes will continue, probably due to the destruction and continental reorganization due to the major volcanic explosion that the island has suffered in the last 4000 years, inasmuch as it is renamed as Strongylē which is interpreted in circumvented or rounded surface.

The volcanic events gave rise to an extraordinary caldera and immense marine lagoon that are the object of deep scientific studies. Nowadays, it is called (Σαντορίνη), an Italian name that was established by the dynamic medieval Venetian merchants who populated it during the foreign invasion, who named Santa Irene patron saint of the island Santa Irene of Thessaloniki after a patronymic tradition. Other records of notable authors indicate that its name has a strong influence on Saint Rini that after the integration of the archipelago to Greece in 1840, would return to its old name Théra, although it is usually known and is called Santorini.. Akrotiri is a small archipelago with valuable Hellenic history that is nestled in Santorini. Its origin dates back at least 4000 years, the pieces and archaeological evidence found in its frescoes, ceramics and tools show a lifestyle that is related to the Minoan civilization. Although not from the pre-Hellenic period, the Venetian Castle is largely preserved. It is a walled building with limestone and granite stones that was built on the top of the hill for reasons of security and strategic defence, since this work of medieval engineering corresponds to the eighteenth century.

It should be noted that these buildings were characteristic of the wealthy class. Today there are only ruins with historical and cultural value that are preserved for visitors and tourists interested in stepping on the ground, feel the walls and appreciate the heights of this medieval fortification that at the time was a building of advanced technology and architectural engineering...

So much for my ecotourism sharing. I appreciate the time you have dedicated and the attention given, I would like to know your opinions or doubts about it to give timely response and feedback my knowledge.
