Morning shadows

Walking the small backroads

After visiting the famous Sensoji Temple and Asakusa Shrine in this neighborhood of Tokyo, we stopped in a Starbucks and enjoyed the view from their second floor balcony. After the break we walked further on to see the streets leading away from the busy center surrounding the temple and merchants. There are quite a variety of shops to be found, including a street dedicated to kitchen utensils and supplies.

I liked how the neighborhoods in the morning cast such hard, defined shadows. This sketch was done using a quill pen and brown permanent ink. Then I chose to use only blues for the shadows to create a duotone effect, keeping it simple.
