Tree Planting Project - Day 16 supports Tanzania

Tree Planting Project

Day 16

41 Trees Planted So Far!

The earth is suffocating from the abusing of deforestation in countries all around the globe. The reason varies, all from large and continuous accidental forest fires during hot summers to global cooperation's wish to gain profitable money to their already large money bags.

I will post one post per day to collect as much post reward as possible to donate for planting trees in various places of the earth using the service of One Tree Planted.

Why I do this?

As the world we live in is going global, we read more and understand more today than at any other time before, I see more and more selfishness. People have a hard time to take in the global perspective, and that what You do every day have an impact on people on the other places of the world. I do this to make a small contribution towards a better, more understanding, and greener world.

I believe in the platform for a greater good, for something that can be used to help others. Each day will have a short summary on the country or project that I support, making the post not only about supporting something, but also educational for you who contribute towards it.

Please help me help others and our planet.

Today we plant 2 trees in Tanzania, is a country in East Africa within the African Great Lakes region. Many important hominid fossils have been found in Tanzania, such as 6 million year-old Pliocene hominid fossils. Over 100 different languages are spoken in Tanzania, making it the most linguistically diverse country in East Africa.

Tanzania is mountainous and densely forested in the north-east, where Mount Kilimanjaro is located. Three of Africa's Great Lakes are partly within Tanzania. To the north and west lie Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, and Lake Tanganyika, the continent's deepest lake, known for its unique species of fish. To the south lies Lake Malawi. The eastern shore is hot and humid, with the Zanzibar Archipelago just offshore. The Menai Bay Conservation Area is Zanzibar's largest marine protected area. The Kalambo Falls, located on the Kalambo River at the Zambian border, is the second highest uninterrupted waterfall in Africa.

The United Nations estimated Tanzania's 2016 population at 55.57 million.

Planting Project

From 2001 to 2017, Tanzania lost 2.19 million hectares of tree cover, equivalent to a 8.3% decrease since 2000. Loss of tree cover on Kilimanjaro and other East African mountains has been linked to lower rainfall patterns and increased temperatures. Wildfires are occurring more frequently on the mountain, accelerating the destruction of forests. Because there are now fewer trees to trap water from clouds, the annual amount of dew on the mountain is believed to have fallen by 25 per cent. Glaciers in the region have decreased by 80% since the 1990s.

Most of the population in these mountainous areas live and work on small farms. They will be hit first, and hardest, by the effects of climate disasters such as floods and wildfires. By working together with these communities, this project seeks to empower local people with education, tools, and economic incentives to make positive change, protect their future and save the unique mountain ecosystems in the region.

The Usambara mountains are home to many of Tanzania’s endemic species of wildlife. They are also a critical watershed for many villages and cities, including Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam. Despite this, the Usambara mountains have experienced some of the worst deforestation in the region as a rapidly growing population converted much of the land for agricultural use. For over 20 years, this deforestation has led to a loss of biodiversity habitat, increased regional drought and soil erosion, and destabilized water supply for surrounding communities.

This project engages local families in reforesting their region in order to stabilize the soil, regulate water supply, and protect wildlife habitat. By planting native tree species, including fruit trees, this project is conserving the biodiversity of the Usambara mountains and restoring balance to the local ecosystem. It’s also addressing the needs of the families who rely on the forest for food, water, and income. Our partners are working with the farmers to raise awareness about proper land management and agroforestry, meaning communities will benefit from these trees well into the future.

A variety of trees - fruit, timber, and indigenous shade trees - are grown on small plots of land in Tanzania. Species planted so far in this project include Grevillea robusta, Eucalyptus saligna, Pinus patula, Avocado, Plum, and Pitch trees.

The Process

Once a posts pay-out is finalized, ~75% of the value will be used to purchase trees through One Tree Planted. I will use WirexAPP to purchase with Cryptocurrency and minimize the loss through fees. The goal is to plant as many trees as possible.

The Result

It's still early in the process of collecting funds, there will be a few until anything is paid out, I'm still going to purchase trees until there are post rewards to use. Thus I will have a negative result for the moment.
