......they would win hands down for resilience and meritorious service to the environment. And here I have walked passed she oaks for years and years on my way through the sand dunes to the beach not giving them the time of the day, Probably because I am drawn to the attractive mighty magnificent trees and she oaks are really not in this category.

I was completely unaware of their numerous amazing abilities and listening to Ben at long last I understand their valuable role in nature. I now know they are drought resistant thriving on little or no water, grow in salty sandy conditions, are natural mulch makers with their falling branches and pine needles and actually grow new tress from their roots. Their roots keep the sand dunes in place, stopping erasing. She oaks are ideal trees for the harsh dry climatic conditions found in Australia. What took me so long to learn about the value of she oaks I wonder?
They do not belong to the pine tree family but they are Australian pine tree or Whistling Pine Tree and do not have leaves. She oaks grow on the coast line and along rocky country areas. The official botanical name is casuarina equisetifolia.source
And as new admirer of she oaks for the first time I have to confess that I saw a prettiness after all! It has taken a while to get to this stage! Better late than never is what I say!

Here is a monochrome look to the she oaks.

The cockatoos come and go as visitors to the she oaks on our stretch of green habitat in front of the beach. They have the strong beaks to crack open the hard nuts. Not having any photos of them feeding on our she oaks I resorted to pinterest this time to show off these remarkable black and white Australian birds.

Thank you @dsc-r2cornell, I appreciate the support.
Even though the oaks would not win the pretty tree competition but due to their resilience and numerous service to the environment they are the best.
Without a doubt @christinb. We so need hardy trees to help the environment and she oaks win the prize.
Thats true
Well for a ugly un-noticed tree they do play a big roll in nature , i remember picking the pine cones of them trees and using them as cricket balls when playing in the parks along the beaches...lol 🤣
Hahaha, I reckon lots of Aussie kids did this. I do know they hurt when you walk on them with bare feet!
Oh yeah ..ouch i know the feeling 😡
Howdy angiemitchell! That is one incredible tree! Kinda homely but so valuable!
Would you have a tree like this in Texas?
I would love that, it's a wild looking tree! Everyone would be saying. "what IS that thing?" lol. I wonder if it would grow here?
