I don't believe that you haven't seen pine trees.. :-)
As for me, Canada is rather popular because of forests and nature :-) And actually we are on the same +- latitudes (Edmonton: 53 and Saint-Petersburg: 59), so pine tree should grow in Edmonton forests or nearby too.
