Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 likely to launch soon
The Redmi Note 5 was 'briefly' listed online
The listing hints at an upcoming launch
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, the successor to the popular Redmi Note 4, seems set to launch in the company's homeland. An online listing showing the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 placeholder was spotted on JD.com. The listing didn't include an image of the product, and can be considered a placeholder for the upcoming Redmi Note 5. After several reports pointed out the listing on e-commerce retailer, it was pulled down tipping that the launch may be imminent. Xiaomi has announced reduction on price of its popular Redmi Note 4, and this may be one sign that hints at successor launch. The Redmi Note 4 has been one of the top selling smartphones for Xiaomi this year.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 specifications
GizmoChina first spotted the listing of the Redmi Note 5 on JD.com and added that it will sport an edge-to-edge display. There were no specifications listed for the handset. Based on preliminary leaks, the alleged Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is likely to launch with 18:9 aspect ratio. Further, the handset is said to come with dual camera. As for specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is said to come powered by a Snapdragon 660 or MediaTek Helio P25 SoC, sport 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel rear camera sensors, and be powered by a 4000mAh battery.

A TENAA, the Chinese certification authority, listing had claimed a 5.99-inch full-HD+ 2.5D curved glass display on the Redmi Note 5. It is said to launch in two variants: 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. It is highly likely to run on MIUI 9 out-of-the-box based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The listing also said that the handset will measure 158.5x75.4x8mm and weigh roughly 180 grams.

To recall, Xiaomi had launched the successor to its Note 4 series, and the first smartphone in the Note 5 series, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A, in China. The smartphone was launched in August and came in two models (Standard Edition and High Edition) with three RAM and memory storage variants in total - the base variant (2GB RAM+16GB storage) is priced at CNY 699 (roughly Rs. 6,700), while the other two premium variants sport fingerprint scanners and upgraded specifications, with the 3GB RAM+32GB storage variant priced at CNY 899 (roughly Rs. 8,600) and the 4GB RAM+64GB storage variant priced at CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs. 11,500).
