Recently, I asked a friend if she had heard of the new song 'Freak Penne' (Freak Girl) from a Malayalam movie- Adaar Love. With all the hype surrounding the movie, she obviously as curious to know what the song was about but on searching for the video, she said she could find nothing but troll videos. This was just a day after the song's upload. It was as if people were waiting for the song to arrive so they could dislike it. So many people are disliking and making troll videos with such great passion, at least that is what it looks like. The video currently has nearly 5 million views and more dislikes than likes, so one has to wonder what is causing this. Let's try and look further deep into it.

Is it because of Priya Varrier?
I am not an expert in malayalam pop culture but fromall the comments and trolls, one could safely say that most people do not like Priya Varrior and her mannerisms (especially her 'thallals' or simply big mouth). Priya Varrier's wink recently went viral and even BBC covered the story(https://1ink.info/kTCgN). Some people think that the attention shes getting is uncalled for and stupid.
Is it the song itself?
The song is colorful, lots of set pieces, it tries to look trendy and freaky. However, it would seem like a lot of what's happening in the song is done for the sake of looking stylish and nothing else. There is very little substance or nuance that could be found in it. Frankly, other than Priya Varrier's presence, I don't see how this song is any different from other recently released upbeat songs.
I honestly think that most of the dislikes were either from people who really didn't want any more songs or content with Priya Varrier in it. Here's a link (https://1ink.info/1Zvh3) to the original song video, to like or dislike is up to you now.
