This amazing woman is an inspiration to me and the many other folk that follow her. I dare say she is an inspiration to all who know her too. @artemislives has her own business in natural herbal products and her passion for natural healing is really evident in her writing and the wisdom that she shares with us. She works closely with the Karen people, the Indigenous ethnic mountain people along the Thai Burmese border. In her own words
My business, Pure Thai Natural Co Ltd is developing an organic social enterprise with the Karen people - supported and endorsed by the Karen Department of Health and Welfare and the Karen National Union. Creating sustainable forest-friendly micro-enterprise livelihoods for people like his widow, Naw Paw Tha, and their seven children.
As I was looking over her posts again, I was hit by the incredible amount of knowledge that she has shared on this platform and the huge amount of awareness she continues to bring about the Karen people. She devotes so much of her time to help these people become more empowered, by sharing skills that allow them to thrive in the land where they reside. @artemislives is first and foremost an activist in all that she does. She is bringing about change!
"His grandfather have farm before. In Burma. Long time ago. The soil so good everything grow, that's why he never know compost." The dry, depleted soil on the small piece of Thai land they are working now grows little, holds no moisture and is packed and baked hard. It looks like brown concrete dust.
The young Karen men with whom I am working are all the sons of soldiers - Karen indigenous soldiers - who have had their lands confiscated, their homes and villages burned. They are here in Thailand as the Karen indigenous community leaders of tomorrow - working to send rice back into Burma, where the Burmese government prevents the UN from delivering food aid. The young men have some memories of farming in Burma, but no practical skills.
