RE: My Tribute to Ursula LeGuin, Who Wrote Some of the First Books I Cared About Reading

in #tributes8 years ago

Thank you for this! I was heartbroken when I found out and I felt utterly alone, because of the lack of tributes on popular media sites. She deserved much more for the impact she made! So thank you for writing this.
It's almost scary to know we will never read anything new from her again, but at the same time she gave so much, and was brave and strong and wise until the end. I love her wicked humor, I love how she carved her path among male writers, and how she made people take science fiction seriously. But most of all, I love how she always stood up for the things she believed in. A giant left us yesterday. Not just a literary genius, but a wonderful human being. And as I searched through her books in sorrow, I remembered something.
This has always been my favorite poem:

Farther west than west
beyond the land
my people are dancing
on the other wind.
-Ursula K. Le Guin

She is dancing now, on the other wind.
