Casey’s talk about building his following is great inspiration for us steemians.. Not just in terms of gaining and building a following, but even more so in gaining and building Steem Power.
I know I’ve spoken a lot about STEEM and how I think it has the potential to become massively valuable in the future. I believe so much in this amazing ecosystem and the projects that are being built on top of it are just incredible. There are always new projects coming out and their progress is becoming exponentially faster!!
Just look no further than Steem Monsters and Dlive and you’ll see what I mean about amazing projects.
Anyways, Casey discussed the long journey of getting to 10M followers. He said (in his superbly creative way) that it was so much harder to get to 1M followers than 10M, because getting to 10M was mostly a process of just sticking to what he had already figured out while staying patient.
He went on to say that getting to 100k was even harder than getting to 1M, because again, it was mostly about being creative, making amazing videos and staying patient.
Then he said that getting to 10k was even harder than getting to 100k because starting at 0 is so incredibly hard. Nobody is really watching you which makes it incredibly hard to figure out what your “audience” wants to see.
Nobody is also sharing your work and sharing in your passion. It’s hard to be passionate when you’re all by yourself. Having at least some audience makes it all worth it! There’s no network effect that will cause you to slowly gain followers because there is no network following you yet!
That was the gist of his talk, but being a Steemian I wanted to take it a step further than simply follower counts. I wanted to take it to the idea of Steem Power and influence on the Steem blockchain.
Garnering and acquiring more STEEM and Steem Power over time is one of the most fascinating things about the Steem blockchain. You can make incredibly leaps and strides in your life by building and focusing on increasing your SP.
SP, in it’s current capacity is a form of influence on the blockchain. By having more SP, you have more say and more potential exposure. You also have increased earnings (a lot of increased earnings as a matter of fact).
Getting to your first 10k Steem Power (similar to how Casey described getting your first 10k subscribers) is very difficult. Starting at 0 Steem Power makes it hard to get even 1 more Steem Power without investing your own money.
Just like how a youtube subscriber base of 0 won’t share itself to get to 1, 0 Steem Power will result in 0 increased SP (of course, we start at just above 0 SP, which means some sort of growth is going to happen, even though it’s not much.
Once you get to 10k though, things become much easier. You’ve got lots of Steem Power “talking” to other STEEM and saying “come over here and join us, we’re going to the moon!” (ok, not really, but you get my point - Steem Power begets more Steem Power).
As you get to 100k, you have more SP to talk to all that STEEM out there. Your SP “calls” to the STEEM, “inviting” it to your miraculous pool that you’ve created for yourself. You’re obviously doing some things right, keep doing those things and 1M is right around the corner.
Once you’ve gotten to 1M SP, you’re officially a whale. Your SP is so massive that it “literally” reaches out and grabs STEEM by the hand and just drops it into your collection. 10M is not far off.
And well, if you get to 10M SP you’re doing something that’s stupendously right and I need to badger you about what kind of Alchemy you’re conjuring up to acquire so much STEEM!!!
