Winning at what you do - especially when you love what you do - comes down to your willingness to absolutely dominate your craft. When I say dominate, I mean being completely and immovably on top of whatever task lay in front of you.
If you want to be one of the greatest investors of all-time, then you need to absolutely dominate the field of investing.
You need to read every book you can get your hands on, every podcast, every audiobook. You need to study case study after case study.
On top of all of that.. You need practical, first-hand experience when it comes to investing. You need to be willing to take some calculated risks.
You're going to need to be willing to lose some battles in order to win the war. Losing is sometimes the most valuable learning experience. If you focus on what you did wrong and what you can improve upon at your next at-bat, then you're going to win and you're going to dominate.
Doing all of this research and putting your head to the dirt will allow you to become the top of your field - to dominate the craft that you have chosen.
This is A Game. Play to Win
I like to think of my craft as being a game. I play the game to win and I win the game by learning the rules and gaining experience at playing.
The more and more that I play, the more I learn and the better I get. The better I get, the more I dominate. A sort of snowball effect ensues and I find myself getting exponentially better over time.
Self-discipline
Being disciplined about things like time management - research, work, practice, etc. - being disciplined about doing some of the things that you may not fully enjoy but that will make you better at your craft.
Becoming great at a craft and dominating your field comes down to the effort and level of obsession that you have for it. The more you can learn and practice within your craft, the more you will dominate and reach your goals.

Hi @triptolemus well said. there is saying- do what you love and love what you do is true and highly effective in our life if we follow. If we love whatever we do then we put our best in that and that best makes us more perfect. After the level perfect we get expertise and once we get expertise then it takes us closer to our goal. This is the cycle from the start till goal achievement.
