Agartala, August 09, 2018: 5,222 Left supporters today courted arrest from various parts of Tripura in a civil disobedience agitation against the anti-farmer policy of the central govt, said AIG (Law and order) Smriti Ranjan Das.

There was no report of violence during the agitation, though Left leaders alleged that they were attacked by ruling BJP supporters at different places.

In the first major political protest since the poll debacle of the Left Front in Tripura in February, 7 Left trade unions organized the stir as part of a nationwide protest by different peasant bodies.

According to the police headquarter, stray incident at Belonia, Gandacherra and Agartala city was reported but no major incident reported from any corner of the state.

However CPI(M) State secretary Bijan Dhar alleged that, BJP cadres were attacked the Left Front agitators at different parts of the state, specially Kanchanpur, Gandacherra, Belonia, Panisagar, Kumarghat and Kailasahar. Bijan Dhar said that, CPI(M) Belonia office was attacked by the BJP cadres although there was no civil disobedience programme at belonia. He also claimed that all total 10 people were injured at Agartala City during the civil disobedience movement.
