I just binged Daybreak over the course of 2 days, this beis my 2nd watch through since it dropped in 2019. The world has changed a lot since then, giving the series an almost quaint feel in hindsight. More than that, there is an anachronistic quality to the dialogue and behaviour of the teen characters who would be more suited in the early 2010s. This could be due to the series being based on a comic from 2013, but I have not read the comic myself and have no idea how closely it cleves to the source material and whether or not the dialogue was updated for the series. Regardless they seems nothing like the teens of 3 years ago.
Despite these strange qualities these series is interesting and enjoyable. The plot itself is mediocre but the series is character driven and the characters are compelling.
I personally quite enjoyed the ending, I found it a satisfying and logical conclusion, left open enough for an additional season.
I have always been of the opinion that Matthew Broderick has been a soulless, dead-eyed zombie since the nineties which works perfectly for his role in this, kudos.
In conclusion the beginning is slow, the journey is painless, and the ending is satisfying. The characters are oddly out of place but compelling nonetheless. Broderick is perfect.
Overall 6.5 out of 10.
