The name of a tool is arbitrary without context.
The Zeitgeist Movement is best related as a community of individuals who appreciate the very real impact of technology on our daily lives. Members advocate a real technical approach and implementation of a globally connected infrastructure to achieve a post scarcity economy. We don’t need endless consumption. We need to achieve a level of production that outpaces our needs as well as curbs the industrial use of compounds that are dangerous to not only ourselves but to the general environment. We need to research and develop new compounds to replace common toxic compounds found in everyday consumer products. Just as important, we need to be able to provide people with what is formally referred to as ‘strategic access’ to resources and tools.
There is an entire generation being reared to consume and we can feel at an instinctual level this is not right. I cannot speak for my entire generation, I know that, I can however say that I have studied history. I do not want a world where communism or socialism or capitalism are the prominent economic modes. I would like us to move to a resource based a economy. A system that asks each person what they require to be comfortable and content. I want to work, and I am sure that there are more than enough members of our species that would want to work too. We need access to tools! We need access to education! This system of ‘selling’ our time is insane. It keeps us busy while people who don’t need to ‘sell’ their time shape the world around us on mass scales. Some of the changes are innocuous and take years to become noticed. Others are jarring, sudden requirements placed on us by the state justified by an environmental change or trend. I wish I could say that these people are working in our best interest. They simply are not. The power structures that they maintain are part and parcel of the same machinery. It is a farm, a ranch for humans to grow and build wealth for the people above them. It is feudalism. I want us to grow out of it. I want you to grow out of it. I don’t want to be a self righteous futurist. I want peace in our time. Help me make it a reality. God’s sake, please help me make a dent in this world in the name of rational, humane, equitable governance. I am young enough to work hard, but I can’t do it for the benefit of the businesses around me. I can’t help organizations that use there money for things that I don’t agree with. I won’t hate myself for something that my community can help me get. And when I am able, I want to give it all back and then some.
We are dying inside.. Our planet is dying because of how we are interacting with it. Most western philosophy and dogma say that mankind is a steward on this planet. If that's true, we are doing a piss poor job. We can do better. We have a responsibility to do better. Upvote if you liked what I have to say and want more of my perspective.
