Ну і я нарешті прочитав цей знаковий для українського модерну твір. Книжка мені дуже сподобалася.
Розповідь без традиційних соплів. Достатньо реалістична. Життя як є. І, на відміну від традиційної української класики тут є трохи сексу.

Автор належить до тієї ґенерації, яку прийнято називати «Розстріляним відродженням». Покоління, яке не змогло дописати, доробити, все що мали. Тим самим залишивши величезну прогалину як у літературі, так і у існуванні народі. І тому цікаво відшуковувати ці шматки- свідчення, щось, що не цілком вдалося знищити, і по них пробувати реконструювати епоху.
Головний герой повісті Степан Радченко потрапляє за комсомольською путівкою з села в місто на навчання. І з часом стає письменником з усіма належними наслідками. По суті це історія еволюції селюка в міщанина в умовах НЕПу. Без прикрас. Достатньо реалістичне зображення епохи. Через призму одного хлопця. І духовні і світоглядні злами. Всього потроху: і кохання, і захоплення, і ад’юльтери із старшою жінкою, і невдачі,і злети. А ну і на фоні Києва – столиці радянської вже України. Але ще з буржуазним блиском. І з його повіями, казино, ресторанами і дешевими пивними. Словом все те, що визначає реальне. Приземлене буття. Але широкими мазками, з розумінням процесів. За це і цінна книга.
