LED bulb under Ujala scheme to be star rated

in #ujala6 years ago

Around two year ago government of india started a project under Energy Efficiency services limited ESSL with an aim to promote energy efficient appliance and the reason being it took India around decade to switch from normal 100w bulbs to CFLs and even 100W bulbs are still sold more compared to CFLs because of its low cost as a typical 100W bulb costs around 15-25 INR where as a branded CFL with one year warranty costs from 250-600 INR depending upon its quality, power and life. So people more likely to buy cheap option despite the fact that it costs more when it comes to paying electricity bills but you know that's how it is.

So when a new Technology to be named LED introduced for general purpose application, the costs were really high as the private sector making bulbs see this as opportunity to make money in the name to new Technology. There bulbs were earlier available as well but the trend to use LEDs for home lightning started when government started promoting Energy efficient appliance.

So the problem that emerged is cost of LED bulbs charged by companies and being said that bulb is most commonly used appliance independent of Weather condition so switching from CFL (with 15-25 W) to LED (with 9-15W) is really a great saving in terms of electricity consumption.
ESSL came forward to achieve this target and since then LED light bulbs is being distributed at an subsidised rate which multiplied the pace at which CFLs is being replaced with LEDs and upto this date a big percentage is now covered under LED when it comes to light bulbs.

But at some areas there was a little problem with quality of bulbs being distributed for instance some LEDs are really bright for eyes where as some loose their intensity over period of time and to tackle this problem ESSL now come up with new solution I.e. the bulbs distributed under the UJALA scheme after 1 july will have to BEE star rated with a Target to eliminate all poor quality bulbs.
