Emily Thornberry and 'our Ange', are muting the idea of seizing private properties owned by citizens after them standing empty for just 6 months with massive changes to empty dwelling management orders.
So it sounds like they have the situation in hand 🤦♂️ What could possibly go wrong?
Whatever mechanisms are put in to place must not be anti aspirational, like most of the other ideas vomited out by these 'leaders' who are bereft of envy and ready to wield their politics of envy credentials at a moments notice!
As you intimated, making these dwellings for those at the bottom of the social ladder, creates silos that breed all the very worst traits anathema to a cohesive neighbourhood, those in the areas who do work routinely stick rigidly to 16 hours or whatever the cut-off for help is at any given time.
I live in one of the most deprived areas of the UK, Teesside, I see it first-hand, have done for many years. I live on an estate that would be seen by many as a bad area, for good reason. Social mobility is not the first thing on the mind of most round 'ere.
I would hate to see those that did manage to pull themselves above their situation constantly moving on to free up a place for someone who has not discovered their mojo yet.
We bought our council house, not at the point most people did as I was always moving from job to job for a few more hours or a small pay increase, so before we dared to take the plunge, made ourself credit-worthy and applied for a mortgage, I was almost 50.
Fear and work insecurity saw us procrastinating on this for many, many years.
Until this government, and the last few of all stripes to be honest, stop throwing out platitudes like the inane 'hope in every postcode' and focus, I mean laser-focus on growth, growth, growth... all is dust.
Although a natural optimist at heart, I have zero doubt that fixing the social housing shortfall is an impossibility. Building the numbers they are talking about without the money to make it a reality cannot happen and I would question if there is even a will, I suspect lip-service is the closest they will get.
Reduce tax burden, free up business, loosen regulation and get out of the way. This is the only prescription that could work, not optimistic they see it that way though!
I know you and I see it very, very differently but I am terrified of the greens getting close to power and as a lab-green coalition looms as a possibility, I believe it will spell disaster.
Oh! I also periodically google Rod Hull's name too! Just in case... 😁
