City transportation drivers in Garut Regency, West Java, protested the construction of the Cipejeuh Bridge located on Jalan Raya Garut-Cikajang. The construction of bridges is considered to be detrimental to them.
The protest was filed by a city transportation driver (angkot) in the direction of Guntur-Bayongbong Terminal to businessmen and the government who were considered slow in carrying out the bridge construction process located on the national road.
Ujang Heryadi (34), one of the angkot drivers said that the bridge construction project made the drivers lose money.
"First the road got stuck. Then the passengers were quiet because people didn't want to get stuck in traffic," Ujang told reporters at the Cipeujeuh Bridge on Tuesday (08/28/2018).
Ujang explained that every normal day he could go back and forth between Guntur-Bayongbong Terminal 10 times to attract passengers. However, since the bridge repair, he can only pull 5 passengers.
Besides making the road jammed, continued Ujang, repairing the bridge also made the drivers have to spend extra capital to buy car fuel.
"Now, if the traffic jams, the engine stays on. So it is wasteful. Now the distance can be up to 60 minutes to go along the 15 meter road," Ujang said.
Ujang hopes that the bridge will be speeded up its construction. In addition to public transport drivers, a number of elf drivers and local residents complained about the construction of the bridge.
Based on information gathered, the Cipeujeuh Bridge was repaired by the West Java Provincial Government. Where the government is expanding the width of the bridge. In the development information board, the bridge was carried out for 210 calendar days.
Meanwhile, based on the monitoring of journalists, traffic jams often occur in this area since the construction of the bridge. The reason is, in addition to being the main access, the route is also often used by out-of-town tourists who want to vacation to Mount Papandayan and the south coast tourist area.
