People's representatives were again charged by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Latest, not only one or two, but a group of members of the Malang City DPRD were appointed by the KPK as suspects.
In total there are 41 members of the Malang City DPRD who are suspects. Nineteen of them were targeted first
The KPK, the remaining 22 people following were named as suspects. Determination of the suspect made the Malang City DPRD quiet because leaving only 4 people's representatives in a bribery case that also ensnared Moch Anton as the Mayor of Malang.
That number still has not followed a bad record of corrupt people's representatives held by the North Sumatra DPRD (North Sumatra) with a total of 50 people. They were charged by the KPK with the alleged receipt of bribes from Gatot Pujo Nugroho when he served as Governor of North Sumatra.
The members of the North Sumatra DPRD came from the 2009-2014 period. Determination of the suspects of 50 North Sumatra DPRD members was initially 12 people, then the remaining 38 people were ensnared later.
Mass corruption affairs involving the representatives of the people had also been carried out by the KPK in 2012. At that time the KPK investigated bribery cases in the discussion of the revision of Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 6 of 2010 concerning increasing budget funds for multi-year activities for venue construction at PON 2012 activities.
Riau Governor at the time, Rusli Zainal, was charged by the KPK. Following this, other executive elements, such as the head of service, spread to Riau DPRD members. There were at least 8 people representatives when they were charged.
Unlawful money does not only revolve around the people's representatives in the region. The KPK's history notes that there is also a group of board members who are designated as suspects as in the bribery case of the traveler's check in the selection of the Senior Board of Governors of Bank Indonesia (BI) in 2004.
At that time there were a total of 30 members of the House of Representatives in the 1999-2004 period who were determined by the KPK as suspects. They allegedly received bribes from travelers who were given Nunun Nurbaeti related to Miranda Goeltom's victory as BI's Senior Deputy Governor.
What happened was to the point of being called an unsettling phenomenon. What will become of democracy if those who sit as representatives of the people instead corrupt people's trust ?
