An elephant child was caught in a pig trap in an industrial plantation area in Sungai Mandau, Siak, Riau. After being released, health conditions continued to decline and had to be evacuated to an elephant training center (PLG) in Riau.
"The elephant saplings were ensnared two weeks ago and we have released them. But in monitoring the team in the field, their health conditions continued to decline," said Head of the Riau Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA), Suharyono told reporters on Friday (9/14). 2018)
After being released from the trap of pigs, it is hoped that the elephant child can rejoin the group. Unfortunately, for two weeks the observation on the elephant field only circled in its original location.
"While the group is in another location with an estimated distance of 57 Km from the presence of elephants who are left behind because of bondage," said Haryono.
As long as he was left behind with his group, the BBKSDA team observed in the field, it was seen the tendency of his weight to decrease.
"The team also saw elephants experiencing diarrhea seen from their feces. We are worried that the elephant's child will continue to deteriorate," said Haryono.
Under these conditions, the team finally decided to evacuate the elephants immediately to PLG in Minas. In PLG the elephants are treated by the medical team.
"So last night the team immediately took elephants from the location to PLG," said Haryono.
The evacuation and treatment team was coordinated by Head of Wil II Division, Heru Sutmantoro accompanied by drh Rini Deswita, drh Danang. Also assisted by a veterinarian from the Asyari Foundation, Dita and a number of nurses.
"The evacuation of this elephant was assisted by a tame elephant named Indah who carried out the driving. The elephants were herded by truck, and last night around 9:00 p.m. arrived at PLG," Haryono said.
While in PLG, this elephant will receive intensive care and treatment intensively. The elephant child was named Intan.
"We express our gratitude for the support of all parties who have assisted in the evacuation of the elephants," Haryono concluded.
