This week, I've been working on a small Chrome browser extension to help with a repetitive task I have to do every day when ulogging: copy/pasting and updating my blog footer. The posts I create on the Steem blockchain now always contains a footer where I add:
- links to previous posts
- communities I'm a member of
- credits
- Steem security tips
I usually keep the text of that footer in Simplenote an app to take notes with Markdown support. But everytime, I need to open it, copy and paste it into the editor and then go find my recent posts and copy and paste the title and URL. I don't like repetitive manual tasks, so being a developer, I thought I'd create something to help me automate this a little bit.
As you can see, I can create up to 5 different templates, I currently have:
- one template for my ULOG posts
- one template for my witness update posts
- one template for comment signatures
In the template you can see the text: {{ RELATED_CONTENT} }}
this is where the automation comes in. As I click on the Find posts
button, the extension will check the blockchain for my most recent blog posts and will display them in a selectable list.
I can then tick the checkboxes for each post I want to include in the footer. A click on the Inject into Steemit editor
will copy the template, replace {{ RELATED_CONTENT} }}
with a bullet point list of posts I have selected and paste that into the Steemit post or comment editor.
This saves me a little bit of time every day. I will release this extension soon, there are still few enhancements to be done.
Previously on my Ulog:
- ULOG 062 - New Shanghai restaurant in Chatswood
- ULOG 061 - Weekly stats
- ULOG 060 - Passive promotion of Steem from an iPhone.
Vote for my witness
On Steem, Witnesses are playing the important role of providing a performant and safe network for all of us. You have the power to choose 30 trusty witnesses to package transactions and sign the blocks that will go in the Steem blockchain. Vote for me via SteemConnect to help me do more useful projects for the communities.

Password and Private Keys security
You all know that your Steem password is the access to all your STEEM, SBD, posting, transferring, everything... right?
So, please, follow these simple steps and keep yourself safe:
- Apart from the initial setup of your account, NEVER use your password ANYWHERE, if stolen, it will give full control to your Steem account.
- Backup your password and keep it somewhere safe. Use a password manager like Lastpass, print it on paper and put it in a safe (no kidding). If you forget your password, no one can help you out.
- To login for creating content and curating, use your Private Posting Key
- To make transfers and account operations, use your Private Active Key
- To encrypt and decrypt memos, use your Private Memo Key
I like steempeak for the templates. The related posts thing is a great idea!

SteemPeak does templates already. It's a realy elegant interface too. :)
Thanks! I will have a look at it.

@ryvhnn @holoz0r I had a look at Steempeak and while the idea is great, I still prefer to use Steemit itself. Just like with Busy, there are UI quirks that makes me feel not comfortable to use and I always want to go back to Steemit. The extension I’m making allows to use templates on Steemit itself no need to use another website. I will add more features such as click on an image to open it bigger without leaving the page, trying to play a dtube video without leaving Steemit etc...

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 7 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.
I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 9 SBD worth and should receive 138 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

The community will undoubtedly be very grateful for this!
I would be too, if I were allowed to use Chrome :-)
