ULOG 090 - What's the truth behind DLive leaving Steem for Lino blockchain!

13 hours ago @wa7 announced the news that DLive will leaving Steem to go to Lino blockchain on Tuesday, September 25th 2018. This news was quite a shock to many as @DLive is one of the Dapps that are a part of the Steem landscape.

Why are they leaving?

They are mentioning about not being able to "reward our content creators with the true value of their content" due to "the current economic model of Steem" that "incentivizes large Steem holders to continuously upvote their own content and other creators who specifically support their content". It is also mentioned that the account creation time on Steem is a barrier to maintstream adoption.

On one hand, I do understand the frustration here. Back in February this year, it took me about a week to get my account created. I invited two of my colleagues to join Steem back then, it took them almost two weeks to get their account and by the time they had it created, they have lost motivation to participate and their account is now inactive. True, as well, that it's not easy for a new blogger without a previous pool of followers to get a good reward but looking at several great authors on the platform, it's not impossible to succeed but tough.

Is that it?

It's their business, they do what they believe is good for them but there is my concern. Have they joined Steem in the first place to help it grow and grow with it? Or have they joined it to profit from it?

This is what @meno is talking about in his detailed comment well worth the $84.81 STU upvote value at the time of writing of this #ulog. @meno has found several facts that point a speculated possibility that all this was already planned from the start:

  • a project that appeared out of nowhere and was an instant success
  • a Dapp that is actually very centralised to the point that even when the blockchain is down it is still functioning
  • the leader of the project is also part of the Lino team
  • organising a logo contest "to detach the brand from Steem" to get closer to Lino by adopting "a color scheme that goes well with" its branding.
  • @dynamicgreentk further stressed the fact that DLive is leaving Steem right on the 25th of Sept which is also the date of release of HF20 that "actually starts to resolve the very issues they brought up here".

Was DLive a plan to use the Steem blockchain to finance Lino blockchain?

Password and Private Keys security

You all know that your Steem password is the access to all your STEEM, SBD, posting, transferring, everything... right?
So, please, follow these simple steps and keep yourself safe:

  1. Apart from the initial setup of your account, NEVER use your password ANYWHERE, if stolen, it will give full control to your Steem account.
  2. Backup your password and keep it somewhere safe. Use a password manager like Lastpass, print it on paper and put it in a safe (no kidding). If you forget your password, no one can help you out.
  3. To login for creating content and curating, use your Private Posting Key
  4. To make transfers and account operations, use your Private Active Key
  5. To encrypt and decrypt memos, use your Private Memo Key

Its just a heck of a way to say thank you for the steem power delegation and the massive amounts of people from @steemit it who promoted their platform across Twitter Facebook YouTube and Instagram just to get a vote. Not to mention the logo contest. For them to blame steemit 4 problems they never even mentioned before and ignoring everything the steem blockchain has done for them is ludicrous. So to leave and then blame everything on steemit all the while offering tokens to switch sides is beyond me. They have not done anything to improve their own website or the way they Garner attention for their real talent. Why people just would not use twitch is beyond me. Now using YouTube for most live streamers now is causing them to lose all of their subscribers. Kind of off point but I kind of wanted to bring that up. It's just really confusing for me because they already have a tipping system in place and any steemit user can put money onto someone's post really easily I have done it plenty of times where I just promote their post. Thanks for bringing up my point here hopefully dlive will at least give greater thanks and recognition for everything steemit has done in future posts instead of just saying steemit sucks because we lost our delegation. Maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong but I was informed the other day that any blockchain is meant to be a ledger and not a way to play high-definition videos with massive amounts of data slash information.

With their own website they can add what ever features they want to reward the author and not rely solely on Steem/SBD.

Oui je le sais bien 😊 c’est plutôt leur façon de dire au revoir à Steem qui les a bien aider, maintenant ils se cassent en disant que Steem c’est bidon venez sur Lino.

You have raised good points. The value of social media is the network. It should replace inefficiencies not add them. I agree there is more drawbacks then benefits at this time.

I still have good hope that the devs will do what’s right for Steem.
