Wow, there is so much wisdom here. I don't even know where to begin. This is exactly how I would have written this. Though, I tend to blame myself for my negative feelings. Which leads to more negative feelings toward myself. Either way, it's a vicious cycle.
And, yes, always treat others how you would want to be treated.
I believe in kindness
It sometimes feels like kindness is taken for "weakness" but I don't want my heart to be tough
I think long term it always bring rewards
Laughter and love are healing agents.
Sometimes we can help others to have a better day by simple actions like holding a door or a genuine compliment. We cannot always help our own circumstances as immediately as we can alter the circumstances of others.
Great words of wisdom, @snook. Being genuine is what life is about. our happiness, many times, is result of our perspective. How we imagine the world or choose to see it doesn't not always reflect reality. This alters the way we interpret life and can easily become detrimental to our being and those around us. Negativity is merely and opposing force and when we are weak and vulnerable is when that takes the wheel.
People who appear to be happy all the time are typically the ones with the deepest wounds, from my personal experience and observation. Life is balance and harmony, good and bad all mixed up.

"Even when someone writes poems or stories, it's not all true..." This isn't exactly what you said, but it caught me. It's true, we can never know anyone's full story. The more we can put positive things out there, with honesty, of course, but try to focus on the positive, it grows. Love you!!!
