I heard the story of how my church was founded today and the story change my perspective about Leaders, originally I believe that leaders were to lead, to be served, to receive honor and lots more. But during Pastor Taiwo Ola message at the Alumni service I was convince, and my new motive about leaders is that they are called to serve, to monitor and to make sure everything that is in their care should be in good condition, here are his short story;

Pastor Taiwo Ola

He is the founder of the church and some other churches as well and he was opportune to be in the program so he was told to give us an elderly advice.

He praise the current and the past executives for taking good care of the church after he had went for his ministry, He let us know that he was once a student like us and he is a biochemist in this same school (OOU), he said the church came to been in existence through Five people; Him, His wife, Dr. Adeboye Osoname and the other two which I cannot remember their names.

Starting from the man in white to the one in lace are the first four member of the church

He let us know that the start the program inside an uncompleted building, and there is no microphone no instrument, nothing aside the table that each of them has in there house and once the service finish they take back their chair and table home.

He mentions some things that a leader must do, and below are some of them;

  • He or she should not look at the pains there; he should focus on the destination they are heading to.
    He said during the start of the church they normally beat table as the drum and I wonder how hard it will be to be beating a table. They went out for evangelism and gradually they are increasing but the rate at which they increase is too low.
  • leader and followers should love
    He said and I quote “When love is thick love is thin”. He explain this quote by letting us know that during those days they do things together and there is love among them all he also advice everyone to love everyone equally, we are the image of God.
  • A leader should show care
    “During our days in OOU, I normally make sure that I know where each of us are, we normally monitor our steps and if we notice that someone is about to fall we bring him up” This is an example of care indeed.
  • A leader must help his follower in attaining success
    He said during that time when M.B students are about to start exam, they normally have package for the medical student, at times the will call for dinner in church or the can even make it a take away and the normally gather together for reading i.e. group reading.
    Lastly, Pastor Taiwo mentions some funniest things they use to do those days in wish we have;
  • Food competition
  • Games
  • Prayers etc.

  • Food competition: He told us a story about one of their competition then in wish his wife was the one assigned to cook and he cooked vegetable soup and pounded yam, now it is the time to compete and the competition is between Him and Dr. Adeboye. Their competition based on who can eat up to five raps of pounded yam, he said he ate four and Dr. Adeboye ate six that show Dr. won the game but the most funniest part of it is that after the competition day he is unable to move out and he wonder Dr. Adeboye went to class.
    What an exciting story!!!

  • Games: he mention lots of games that the normally played then.

  • Prayers: “We normally prayed every Friday night and almost every evening once our exams are near”. Prayer is the master key.
