I don't think there is a problem with the "trap direction". Rap has always had heavy ties to drug culture and it will continue to draw from and market itself towards that market.
I do agree that the ease of putting music on Soundcloud has diluted the field, but it is also not always a bad thing. It just means we as fans have to be more attentive and diligent about finding and rewarding quality music.
