Great info for ash! I loved learning about how handy it is for birds dust baths. I worked with one farmer who liked to put it in the compost because in his opinion the compost gets all the "crem de la crem" and gets spread where it's needed. Another homesteader I worked for liked to use ash spread on garden beds toward the end of winter to help melt the snow faster given that it's darker in color.

Lots of uses. lol. We have a lot of ice here due to the really warm weather. A few pails of it was spread to keep the vehicles from crashing through the gate and prevent elders from slipping and falling. Thank you for sharing. Compost would be a nice place to put it as well. The ash does indeed melt snow faster too. I found that to be true when we spread ash in the garden during the winter.
I'm going to have to try it on my front steps! I just learned a few hours ago that the roof overhang conveniently stops to drip on the bottom step of the front door.
That seems to be rather inconvenient! lol If your roof is dripping is it due to poor insulation in the roof or snow melt due to the warm weather?
Yeah it's a design flaw! It's mostly due to warm weather getting above freezing.
Hey @wwf, you inspired me! I gave the wood ash to the chickens for them to dust bathe. You can see my post here.
