Technology cannot fix broken hearts and minds.
You can give the most advanced technological gizmo to a fool and he will find a way to abuse it, causing untold pain. Also, you can design a system which never considers the end goal of unity which also delivers untold pain. With no ultimate goal of unity, we exist inside a system that has us pitted against each other.
We need to build a unity program.
I don't know what it is, what it looks like or how it works, but a unity program is what we need right now. All these complicated rules are making people break. Worse than that, a division of this community is occurring. I have seen this all before. The splitting up into 2 distinct camps is the first stage. We are in a system that was designed with good intentions but didn't consider the negative effects on human psychology.
We need a unifying program, something that does not pit us against each other. We need to start backwards and ask the question: "what program would bring people together?"
If you have people choose between Steemit and Facebook, I bet most of us are on the same side. How do we translate that into here? Most religions and intentional communities have things that bond people together. Religions have the same deity they worship and most ecovillages have rules about not using petroleum products. Those things bind those particular humans together.
In here what binds us together? I'm an atheist, so I'm not going to have much in common with a devout Christian. There are a ton of different kinds of people in here. The only two things we all have in common are: money and a desire to build a decentralized social media platform. It's obvious that fighting over monetary rewards is leading nowhere fast. So, what does that leave us with?
Do we need to create a Decentralization God?
The system within here doesn't unite us in a common goal. It's fractured and mired with countless rules and sub-rules. It's designed for fragmentation, highly specific rules, math and it does not have a holistic approach. It was not designed with the end goal of unity. This is a huge deal.
Reflecting us is like reflecting 10,000 splintered images. What can we do as entire group to strengthen our commitment to a decentralized future with Steemit leading the way?
Conflict is not bad, but when the algorithm and those who construct it have never built a real live community full of human beings, we need to take a really serious look at how it is being built and what tools are used for it.
Why is there not a unity application within Steemit?
Why has no attention been given to devising a way to bring people together? Do we need to create a "Decentralization God" so that we can all have the same thing to worship? I would guess that we do. We need something because otherwise we're going to rip each other's heads off. You think I'm being overly dramatic? Think again. Most intentional communities, both online and offline fail. The same can be said for most startups. They have an abysmally low success rate. Many of us have been inside communities that have failed, and they all seem to follow the road of first splitting up into two camps. This is a sign that something drastic needs to change. Vote canceling sounds like more warfare to me. A reimagined system is needed.
I'm going to think about something we can do because if the the 2 camps get more entrenched, this is very very damaging. I don't want to choose a side, but my lizard brain sure does want to. It's the flaw within every human being who has emotions. It's how we were designed. We are designed, by biology to survive. We don't like going it alone. And when leaders leave, don't say a word, we get frightened. This is just how most humans operate. We feel like we've been left out in the dark woods to starve.
Then, a big, bad voice comes to us. This voice used to frighten us, as we've seen this big voice before. But the more we hear the big bad voice, the less scared of it we become. There's no other voice to compare it to, so we start to become friendly with the big voice that used to scare us in the past.
Honestly; I love the points you bring up...
"Why is there not a unity application within Steemit?"
The Desire to maintain the Steem blockchain does unite us like the belief in a single omnipotent being unites believers.
But the application known as "Steemit.com" is simply a portal into viewing the Steem blockchain, like "Unity" is the portal(GUI) to Ubuntu-Linux.
Currently the majority owners of Steem are also the owners of the Steemit, I too would love to see Steemit build new methods for perceiving the Steem blockchain.
Maybe we could build something that taps the Steem blockchain on the MaidSafe Network or maybe even Ethereum?
I'M IN! 😄 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Let the pitching begin. I'll have a think. 👍
I think I'm going to build the ultimate God and Goddess of Decentralization!!!!! That's the only thing I think we can all get behind! We need a freaking deity!
well, I have a feeling that we'd all be fighting over the kind of deity it would be! We are all super-opinionated. Maybe I'm full of utopian, unrealistic ideas that are incompatible with human nature!
The key is that a "spiritual" person needs to dictate what the developers build.
I'm not so into that guru idea 😕 But I am up for any project which bring people together, however that is. Still thinking on it. 🤔
what i meant is that someone who thinks in a more holistic fashion can be the main architect. Using too much fragmented thinking should be avoided.
I'm not being funny, but I don't know what that really means. 😓 I guess you mean not being divisive? Definitely up for that.
"No gods to praise, no flags to raise" 😎
what i mean is that someone who thinks in big picture ways, not math.
We need all to be adding to something instead of having the feeling of something being taken away. In japan, there was a Health Deity i lived next to. When people got sick, they would go to the deity and place a piece of white cloth onto the part of the deity's body that was bad on them. If they had a bad knee, they'd place the white cloth (soaked in glue) on the deity's knee. THE POINT IS THAT THEY WERE ADDING TO THE DEITY, NOT TAKING AWAY FROM IT. What could we build in a digital sphere that has us all adding to something, making it bigger?
What I really like about that as a metaphor for making an app on steem(it) is that it's this one thing, this one kind of random statue (I think right?) that serves some purpose in the community. It's not written into a law (I presume!), not mandated officially, probably was more or less a pop up idea at some point. Most importantly, it's not directly to do with unity as such. There's no sign above it "guys, we need unity, use this will you!" It's the indirect effect. So an idea that fits those seems like it would be great.

what would work????

The best ideas I have are all around just doing kind of encouraging projects like running events to do with writing, photography, etc. There is already stuff like this going on so I guess it's kind of covered. There might be some other interesting ideas in this vein that aren't being done much though.
I think your videos do a lot to parody tense situations and lighten the mood. These kinds of things are important too, not taking everything too seriously.
The more I think about it the more I think this kind of things is already going on. Perhaps then it just needs to be sought out and resteemed by more prominent account.
I can't come up with a unity app idea, though I've been thinking about it a lot. Maybe it's not needed after all. 😕
Yeah, anything is possible! I just write based on whims and temporary insights.....whether they materialize into anything remains to be seen.
I agree with you that leaders need to communicate to stop this conflict.
Do you want unity or decentralization? They are at odds.
I think only strict unity is, that's just coercion by another name.
I think unity is used euphemistically here (@stellabelle maybe you can clarify), more to do with solving problems, "getting on with it", encouraging cooperation. Not falling out or completely losing faith in the platform and leaving.
In any case there's a place for these kind of non technical ideas. It's a social network after all.
Whatever it looks like it sounds great.

Did you make that gif? I love it! I love all your gifs!
I don't know if this is the "Unity" you are talking about.... But incase you did not know...
"Unity is a graphical shell for the GNOME desktop environment developed by Canonical Ltd. for its Ubuntu operating system."
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAS!!!! THIS IS THE PROBLEM! TOO MUCH FRAGMENTATION, NO HOLISTIC APPROACH
So the Steemit Gnome is part of the unity solution! Who knew? You, unconsciously, I guess. ; )
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and everyone else.
All we need to do is migrate the first camp into the latter camp. 😄😇😄

You inspired a ramble, thanks. Not a very good one yet, but there you have it.
