The Simulated Universe Hypothesis posits that our universe is the result of simulations run on an analogue of a digital computer. The hypothesis is an extreme version of a branch of physics called digital physics. The central assumption of digital physics is that the universe is fundamentally composed of computable substructures and superstructures. This was well epitomised by Wheeler in the famous dictum : “It from bit”. Proponents of the simulated universe hypothesis argue that if we accept Wheeler’s argument,then it follows that some super-intelligent schemer must have created the informational universe.It is highly unlikely that intelligenceinterpretable information, buried in quantum mechanical systems , on the surface of black holes, and deep inside superstring theory, can arise spontaneously from nothing and offer meaning to nobody.
