Is the electronic cigarette really so dangerous and are the warnings right? In Part 2 of this trilogy, we are going deeper into this aspect and we are examining a second statement.

STATEMENT 2.

With electronic cigarettes containing nicotine there is a risk of overdose.

That's right. However, it is very unlikely that this will also be effective. Up to now, despite the millions of users worldwide, no case of overdose is known.

When an electronic cigarette is used as indicated, there is no risk of overdose. Any substance - including water - is toxic if too much is consumed. This is also the case with the e-cigarette.

The LD50 or median lethal dose - this is the dose fatal in 50% of cases - is estimated at 10mg for children and varies from 30mg for a non smoker to 60mg for a smoker.

A standard electronic cigarette has a cartridge of 1 ml. There are also models with 2ml containers. The nicotine content in such a cartridge ranges from 0 to 2.4%. This means that a cartridge of 0 to 24mg and a tank contains 0 to 48mg of nicotine.

Based on these data, you can calculate yourself the risks to smokers - the target group for which electronic cigarettes are intended. Even with complete failure of the device or full intake of the nicotine, overdose is almost unthinkable.

Even though we consider the likelihood of hardware problems that could result in an overdose almost indefinitely, an indicator indicating the remaining amount of nicotine in the cartridge could provide an answer to clear this polemic permanently from the job.

Any danger may occur in the careless circulation with circulating cartridges or refills in larger packages. Problems can arise when a child inserts a cartridge or seizes a refill e-liquid in larger volumes.

E-liquids are available in different flavors such as Cola, Strawberry or Vanilla. It is not unthinkable that an ignorant child makes a fatal mistake and drinks from the nicotine solution. The piece will probably do less goodness than a refreshing Fristi and will not be emptied to the bottom but you never know.

To avoid all risks, we recommend users to choose a brand that supplies cartridges that are sealed or child restraints.

In addition, we also call for stricter control and possible banning of e-liquids with flavors that sound like chocolate, cherry, passion fruit or just mention ... The electronic cigarette must focus on smokers and by offering a variety of flavors the product is accessible To become for other users, more particularly a large group of highly influential young people.
