روشی جتنا فاصلہ ایک سال میں طے کرتی ہے اسے نوری سال کہا جاتا ہے۔ شمالی ستارہ زمین سے چار سو چونتیس نوری سال کے فاصلے پر ہے۔
اس سے نکلنے والی روشنی کو زمین تک پہنچنے میں چار سو چونتیس سال لگتے ہیں.
