Hello everyone Anidel here for another quick and simple tutorial. Today I would like to share with you have to install and setup TOR Browser. I will make this tutorial as detailed and as simple as possible so that newbies will be able to follow my instruction.
Introduction
The main focus of TOR browser is anonymity. If you like to keep your online activities as discreet as possible one would use TOR browser. It does this by jumbling the communications between you and the sites you visit. It also gives its users the tools to punch through censorship. It is one of the slowest browser around due to the fact that it bounces your communication around but If security and anonymity is your primary concern then this is the best browser around. It has proven to be so effective that in some countries deem it as an illegal software to use.
Requirements
- TOR installation file
- Browser with internet connection
- Site to test your connection
- USB flashdrive optional
Procedure
We start off by going to the TOR browser's main website to download the installation files. To start downloading just click on the purple download button shown below.
Once you click the purple download button it will bring you to the website's download page. You can find the different supported platforms for TOR browser and what are the available language for it. We are installing in windows in this tutorial therefore I am choosing the Microsoft window's version. To start the download just click on the link shown on the screenshot below.
Once that link is clicked it should initiate a download in your current browser for a file called "torbrowser-install-7.0.11_en-US.exe" (this may differ if there are new releases). A warning sign might appear (this depends on your security settings of the browser you are currently using) just ignore this warning message as the file we are downloading does not contain malware. Just click on the button "Keep" to proceed downloading the file as shown below.
Once the downloading is done we locate the file to run it. If you are using chrome you may use the keyboard shorthand*** "CTRL+J" which will bring you to the download summary page of Chrome in which you have to just click on the "show folder" link*** to bring you to the location of the file or you may just follow the steps shown below.
This is the download directory where "torbrowser-install-7.0.11_en-US.exe" was saved. Locate and run to start the installation process of TOR browser.
During installation it will ask you what default language TOR browser will be using. Choose which language to use.
After choosing the language you will be asked to what directory you want to install. I chose to install it to its default directory "C:\Users\elitebookG1\Desktop\Tor Browser\Browser" this depends on the system you are using. Generally it installs at desktop. This application is portable meaning you may move it around as you wish so long as all the folders and files remain intact in the directory. You may install it in a USB drive so that you can use it on any windows operating system.
After installation it will ask you if you want to Run the program after installation as well as if you want to create shortcuts. If you plan to keep them in the same directory and use it regularly I advice you to make the shortcuts for easy access. If you plan to move it around or store it in a USB drive then there is no need to create the shortcut and just go to its main directory whenever you want to run the browser.
After installation since I ticked on the run after installation selection the browser will automatically run bringing you to the page shown below. Most of the time we will just click on connect . However when your connection is censored then you have to click on configure in order for your TOR browser to connect in the internet. You may use TOR's Pluggable Transports to configure your connection. This feature is beyond the scope of this tutorial you may check this feature at this page.
The graphics shown below shows a quick overview how to configure your TOR if it is blocked by the country or you ISP. To know more about this please go to TOR's page about pluggable transport web page.
After configuration TOR browser will connect to the internet. Please note that TOR is design for anonymity and due to its security features it might not load as fast as your typical web browser.
Once loaded you well see a message on top of the browser just below the URL field asking you to set security settings as shown below. Just click on "open security settings"
Just slide to what level of security you want .
High
At this level, HTML5 video and audio media become click-to-play via NoScript; all JavaScript performance optimizations are disabled; some mathematical equations may not display properly; some font rendering features are disabled; some types of image are disabled; Javascript is disabled by default on all sites; most video and audio formats are disabled; and some fonts and icons may not display correctly.
Medium
At this level, HTML5 video and audio media become click-to-play via NoScript; all JavaScript performance optimizations are disabled; some mathematical equations may not display properly; some font rendering features are disabled; some types of image are disabled; and JavaScript is disabled by default on all non-HTTPS sites.
Low
At this level, all browser features are enabled. This is the most usable option.
After setting the security you can use your TOR browser as a normal browser. Shown below is luckygames website. This site gives you 500 tokens for free that you can use to earn points in their system. You can only get it only once and it tracks if you already have receive your tokens (Which I have). Using the TOR browser it did not recognize that i was already given a token which only means one thing it I am not being tracked and I am anonymous. Success! we have installed an anonymous browser.

Is this better than the Brave browser?
According to some reviews it is better. However as per my experience it is relatively slow. I friend of my mine told me if I want to browse the CIA websites i should use TOR hahaha

Thanks for detailed tutorial but I cant install it as internet speed is already slow where I live.
Really i am not sure if this requires faster internet connection. Our internet connection here in the Phiippines is slower than most countries also but we can still use it.
