You have indeed done a good service to the community. This confirms what I learned weeks ago, that the bid bots are poor value if not taken with a generous helping of luck. Bid bots can look like great value 10 minutes before they pay out. Turns out, the one time I tried one there was a flurry of last-minute bidding. I probably got back less than half my bid. I don't think my experience was abnormal.
