One of the best things about the STEEM blockchain is the open-source nature of it that allows projects, businesses, and websites to harness the STEEM blockchain for good.
One of these platforms that is successfully harnessing the STEEM blockchain is DTube, the decentralized video sharing platform taking on Youtube, it's centralized older sibling.
DTube allows you to view and upload videos without fear of censorship and de-monetization. It uses the STEEM blockchain to harness it's 3 second block times and it's rewards system so that you the video content creator can be rewarded for creating valuable content by the community.
This tutorial is created to help you harness this awesome synergy and upload your content to the DTube platform.
This guide is written under the assumption that you have a Steemit account. If you do not have a Steemit account you will need to create one to sign-in to DTube.
Also, make sure to have your content edited and ready to go at this stage so that the process can be streamlined.
Here is the four-step process on how to upload your content to DTube
Make sure to have your Private Posting Key from your Steemit account.
To access this go to "Wallet." Then "Permissions." Click "SHOW PRIVATE KEY" on the right hand side correlated to Posting key and your private posting key will be displayed.
This is needed so that when you post through the DTube it will post to your Steemit account for the Steemit community to enjoy.
Okay now you got this info it's time to access DTube and take the first step in becoming a DTuber.
Click
and log-in with your Steemit username and Private Posting KeyIf you want to you can add more than one Steemit account to DTube which is an epic feature to many.
Once you are logged in you are exposed to the DTube video of the community from Steemians you are already following and other Hot and Trending videos.
Watching and analyzing these Hot & Trending videos can provide a lot of value to see which content format, flow, and type are succeeding in the current landscape of the community.
Time to release that amazing content for the community to enjoy.
Click the "Upload" button located in the upper right corner of your screen like so:
You can either drag the file over into the big box seen below or click anywhere in the box to pull the file from your computer or other source.
The content will be uploaded in several different stages which is as result of how DTube stores its data. DTube uses the IPFS network, which is open-source, for data storage.
As a result this process does take some time. To maximize efficiency, this is when I finish the rest of my content by filling in the description, title, and the tags like below:
That way once your video is fully uploaded your post will be ready to go to the community.
You only have one chance at a first impression.
This is where you upload a "snap" or thumbnail image which will be the cover image that people will see when browsing your video on Dtube & Steemit.
Sometimes you might choose a snap from your video footage that gives a good sense of the message of your content. Or it could be a professional snap that helps you develop a brand.
Experiment and test to see which type of images have the most impact and incorporate this into your Dtube posting process.
Time for your content to shine.
Double-check and scan your final post to make sure everything is how you want.
And then click "Submit."
You just harnessed the open-source STEEM blockchain through the DTube platform.
