How to Add Text (Title Subtitle) To The Video with KDEnlive

in #utopian-io8 years ago (edited)

Hello, everyone!
I'd like to share about how to add the text (title or subtitle) to the video with KDEnlive.
What is KDEnlive?

KDEnlive is a freeware and open source video editor. It is non-linear.

What is non-linear?

Non-linear is similar to cut and paste method. It accesses directly to any frames in a video clip without needing to play to reach it.

Now, I'll tell you about things to do.
Step 1
Run KDEnlive which can be downloaded at here. If you're confused about how to install, you can check my tutorial at here.
4. Run the program.png

Step 2
Go to Project>Add Clip to open and add what's video you want to edit the audio from.
5. Add video clip.png

Drag the file to the video editor.
2. Drag to the editor_e.png

Step 3
Go to Projects>Add Title Clip in order to add the text to the video.
3. Add Title Clip.png

Click "Add Text" first, then type what's text you want to add.
4. Add Text and Type_e.png

You can select what's font type of your text. Just select from the list.
4. Set Font Type_e.png

You can choose what's size of the text fit in your video.
4. Set Font Size_e.png

You can set the color of your text.
4. Set Font Color.png
4. Set Font Color_2.png

You can move around your text with this tool
5. Move or Select the text_e.png
5. Move or Select the text_2.png

If you want to view your background video, just check this option. It makes easier to move or resize or set the text whatever you like directly within the video.
6. Check show background_e.png

You can zoom out to view from far distance about the fit text.
If you've done setting, just click "OK".
7. Zoom out to look from far distance.png

Now, the text has been added.
8. The Title has been added.png

Just drag the text to the editor like you've done to the video file.
9. Drag the text just like usual_e.png

You can resize or move the text to fit the position time. I've added the arrow to tell about how to stretch it.
10. You can resize_e.png

Here is my set.

Step 4
When you've done all.
Go to Projects>Render to render your edited video.
12. Project Render.png

The format is up to you, but I recommend you choose "Old-TV (DVD) MPEG-4". That's what compatible for almost all of video players.
Don't forget to set your output directory at "Output File" field
12. Project Render_2.png

You can customize how's the video output, too.
After you've done setting, click "Render to File" to start rendering.
12. Project Render_2a.png

It will start rendering.
12. Project Render_3.png

When finished, then open up the file.
