The 1UP Upvote Button
(This is just a sketch and not the final design)
All new Utopian contributions will be able to receive a 1UP per person until they are either upvoted by the official Utopian bot or if they are disaproved by a moderator. The 1UP's will be given via the new button integrated with the @steem-plus browser extension from @stoodkev. He is developing the entire backend and functionality of 1UP. The button will be available on Steemit, Busy and Utopian.
The button will only appear when the user meets the 1UP criteria to participate. They need to be logged in with @steem-plus (via SteemConnect). All participants need a reputation of 45 or higher to see/use the button. You cannot vote for the same person more than once a day and never for yourself.
When you hover over the button there will be a pop-up bubble with a default 1UP tooltip. When you hover over the 1UP amount next to the button you will get a pop-up with all names who gave the 1UP, similar to the upvote amount. When you click the button there will be an animation releasing the 1UP text over the button. This is being developed by @scipio with a brand new lightweight non-JS animation script.
The 1UP Ranking Page

When a post receives a 1UP it will enter the 1UP ranking page and the main tab called Now. Here all posts are ordered by the amount of 1UP's they got. Every 2.4 hours - similar to a bid-bot - the @utopian-1up bot will strike and upvote the highest post in the list which will trigger the curation trail upvotes.
The upvoted post will enter the archive and not be listed on the main tab anymore. All other posts will remain in the list for another chance to get the top position. They will remain there until they not qualify for a 1UP anymore by either getting disapproved by a Utopian modertaor or by receiving the final @utopian-io bot upvote from the main page. This can be for several days in some cases.
Besides the main tab there will be a Today tab with all upvoted posts of the day ordered by 1UPs, a tab for Yesterday with all posts which received a 1UP and an all-time best archive where the highest ranked posts can be found. Further archives are possible.
On top of the page you will find a timer indicating the next upvote. You can also give 1UP's directly from the ranking page by clicking on the 1UP button. You will be able to give exactly one 1UP per round which means up to ten 1UP's per day (changed from the original one per day). You cannot give more than one 1UP's to the same user per day.

We have gotten support from the amazing @andrejcibik who has already created the little sketch above of the ranking page. I have asked him to do the entire page and the button integration for Steemit, Busy and Utopian (which will by slightly different, fitting to the design of each page).
Voting Power
We will run the trail with 100% upvote power on each round. But we will also use 1UP's as a bounty system for which we need to hold back some power. Hence we could do something like manual 1UP's to claimed bounty posts and then reduce the trail upvote from 100% to 75% or less until we have regained the extra voting power spend for the bounty. This will not influence the game much since the majority of trailers will not follow the 1UP voting weight anyways but will usually use fixed percentages below 100%.
Here are some suggestions with what strentgh to follow 1UP:

More ideas
There is always more with me. Currently I am considering to allow direct upvoting via the ranking page. People will try to game the system and come before the 1UP trail. Let's make it easy for them. However, we also want the trail itself to be the most attractive part of the game. So it should be more profitable to actually follow the trail and not front-run the front-runners. So, for the next phase we will think about a dynamic trail system which reshuffles the position according to who has given a 1UP first. This will make it even more lucrative to play with 1UP's by being an active and early curator again. Another thing could be to stop post from getting 1UP's when they have received a threshold of upvotes already which would make it less profitable for the trail anyways.
You see, this is a biggy with lots of functionality and plenty of win-wins. It also is a game and will be gamed in good and bad ways. We will have to observe the system very closely and create analysis reports to make it as transparent as possible.
