Creating Photo Pop Out Effect With GIMP

Hi all,
In today's day I want to re-share tutorial using GIMP software. Tutorial at this time I was inspired from a youtuber named Nick Saporito. In this post, I will share the tutorial "Creating Photo Pop Out Effect" to you.

Before we start the editing process, the very first thing you have to prepare is GIMP Software. If you do not have GIMP software yet, please download below.
Download GIMP: https://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Furthermore, in editing the making of Photo Pop Out Effect, prepare the first two pictures of the example as shown below. First is the image of the smartphone and the second sample is a photo object that wants to be given the effect of pop out.

If you have prepared all of the above, please follow the steps below to start the editing process.

  1. First of all, open your GIMP software and insert the picture (Sample 1). How to click File > Open > Search and select the photo you want to insert.

  2. Next do the selection to the transparent screen on the phone. But before, please enlarge the image first in order to simplify the selection process. How to click "Zoom Tool" > And Choose Zoom in > And click on the image.

  3. Next do the selection using the "Paths Tool" like the image below. Just do screen selection. Next please zoom back the image by clicking "Zoom Tool" > Select Zoom Out > And click on picture.

  4. To display the selection line, please click Select > From Path. Next, right click on Layer> and select "Add Alpha Channel". Last press CTRL + Delete.

  5. Eliminate selection by click Select > and select "None". Then enter the photo (Sample 2), How to click File > Open As Layer > Search and insert photo.

  6. Then subtract Opacity to set the location of the image. Set the location and size by using "Scale Tool" and "Move Tool". If the location is appropriate, return the Opacity as before. And drag the Layer "Sample 2" Down.

  7. Continue to do the selection on the face of the object to give effect Pop Out. But first, please reduce the Opacity and enlarge the image to make sure you do the selection.

  8. Make a selection on the object's face (Sample 2) using the "Paths Tool" as below.

  9. If selection is complete, click Menu Select > Select "From Path" > Last press CTRL + Delete.

  10. Next, remove the selection by click Menu Select > and select "None". Next Zoom Out back, and raise the Opacity to 100%.

  11. Give the dark effect to look more dramatic. How to click Menu Color> Curves> and set the curve line like the picture below.

  12. The process of editing 'Creating Photo Pop Out Effect With GIMP' has finished. To save it in JPEG, PNG or other format, please click File> Export As / Export> Give Name, set format, set storage> last click Export.
