I really liked how you showed us the various types of spam. I think most users are not aware that spam appears not just as repeated comment but also in form of images and so on.
On the one hand I had the feeling that sometimes the details of this spam type may be also relevant to the users. But on the other hand this would have made the post far too long. So when covering such a big topic I would have split the post in half and added some details.
Some smaller issues:

Thanks for the great feedback.
I was torn on cutting the post shorter or going ahead with a long post. Will definitely take readability into consideration for the next part of the series.
I'm sticking to the dividers for now, I like them too much :) But I will keep them to a minimum next time.
Thank you for your review, @naturicia!
So far this week you've reviewed 1 contributions. Keep up the good work!
I have to say, "Steem Cleaners" is such a great name! Ha! I love a good pun like that. Well, I'm new here, and even now, I do believe you that the system is probably one that needs maintenance to help it run right, but my understanding of things is still kind of blurry -- like a new driver who is still trying to get the feel of things.
I recently got a "congrats" and a badge, then it gave me the opportunity to vote for a witness. I don't understand enough to know if I should vote for them. How does a new user know if something is legit or not?
Hi and welcome to Steemit! @SteemCleaners is usually associated with cheetah but they do a lot more than just looking for potential plagiarism articles on the blockchain. Their website is where you can report abuse. They have definitions of abuse so it will help you decide if what you're reporting is something they can do about (flag).
You can hold off on voting for a witness. There's a lot to learn before even choosing one with values you are aligned with.
Do you make soap? I'm going to check your page :) I haven't made lye soap in a while...
Good advice! I will hold off voting for witnesses for now. That makes sense.
Yes, I do make soap! I only ship it in the United States right now only because it's a shipping system that I understand, and wouldn't even begin to know how to charge for all the variety of rates of shipping in the various countries. It wouldn't be worth while for the buyer to spend a lot of shipping anyway, in my opinion. I do have a handful of the items on Ebay, and they handle global shipping. But anyhow, globally, I might be an encouragement to those who are making soap in their own countries. They may be inspired by my designs. Making soap is fun!
Wow @lovenfreedom this is an excellent post and lesson on spam. My husband is currently studying and going to school for IT. He is interested in cyber security! I did not know IT was your field, but it makes sense! 😄
Thank you for this post and for breaking it down for us what spam is and how we can do our share to help cut it down. I have to be honest and say I did flag someone one time at the beginning of my Steemit journey. He/she was going around harassing people and saying harsh things non-stop. Well that account flagged 2 of my posts just for vengeance. Thank goodness it didn’t have a lot of SP so it didn’t affect me at all but it’s the point that they try to attack you for speaking up. I’ve been afraid since then to get into a flagging war so I just have left it alone. Someone once told me “let the big fish handle the spammers, they are the ones that have the power and juice and can handle a vengeance attack.” What are your thoughts on that?
Thank you!
Cyber Security is a good niche. At work, that department is always trying to keep up with securing the company network. So much so that social media sites or any blogging site is blocked.
Appropriate flagging is important. Just make sure you check their SP first :) in case they flag you back. But if enough people back you up for standing up to wrong, then you can flag and you can get "healed".
You have 61 rep, enough to lower an abuser's rep. Want to join steemflagrewards? You have enough SP to get rewarded for your flags.
This part I don't understand and am not familiar with. I'll have to research more on it.
But the rest I do and can relate when I first join in May. Didn't have anyone to guide me in the beginning so I'm a culprit as well. Then, I found several friends who showed me the simple ways and rules.
Now I'm really enjoying myself by putting up post of original stories of my own or participating in contest to create the engagement. I've also joined several discord communities... Not as many as others as I do not want to take on more than I can handle.
Can't wait for part 2. This is good learning for me. Thanks so much
GitHub is a code repository for developers or anyone who wants to contribute to open source. This makes the code available for everyone.
Steemit has a GitHub repository in case anyone wants to read and view the inner workings of the platform. There's a specific application that takes away the SP delegated by Steemit if an account violated their terms of service.
I'm glad you find it helpful :)
Oh wow!! This is like some gate keeper right. And we get to see the workings of the platform. Never thought this was possible just in case anyone steal their hard work 🤔

That's a really good post. Spam and abuse may not be as big an issue here as I feared, but we still need to deal with it. A lot goes on out of sight of most users. Thanks for being part of the solution.
Agree, we still need to deal with it. Before I just ignored it, most of the ones I encountered had zero rewards. But then there will be someone who would upvote those spam and then that encourages them to spam even more.
